Field Trip to Hiroshima and Kyoto Part 2: Kyoto! (and extras)

Here is the one you have been waiting for! The second part of the 2-part update on my Hiroshima and Kyoto trip! Lets get started...

Now on the Shinkansen ride from Hiroshima to Kyoto

Justin looks pleased

Sleepy face

Our first day in Kyoto was completely free, so a bunch of us decided to rent bicycles and go around town and see some temples and whatnot. Definitely one of the best decisions ever, it was amazingly fun.

Lookin good on our newly acquired bikes

Lined up outside of a convenient store.

Outside the temple we visited. We like to segregate the white people in Japan.

Now inside of the temple

So much greenery

We had perfect weather, it was amazing

It was so beautiful that its kind of hard to describe it.

Our view from the top

Back on the bikes, did a lot of exploring that day.

Me and Shanaynay

A bridge we came upon, although there were a lot of them.

The view down the river from the bridge

How could we not do another boy band photo?

Well, at least they're trying, but they will never compare to us.

Skipping some rocks down by the river. Those stones are shaped like turtles and other sea creatures.

Now walking around Kyoto at night, cool place.

It happened to be Tim's birthday while we were in Kyoto, so everyone on the trip went out to celebrate!

Time for karaoke!

The Meigaku girls doing their thang

We got some good ones in that night, like Wonderwall

Everybody got into it

Queen, the ultimate karaoke band

This is an amazing photo. Everyone is doing the robot while Ken is dying of laughter. We may or may not have been singing Mr. Roboto.

Second day in Kyoto (and last full day)! A group of us went to Uji, a city where they have the building that is on the 10 yen coin.

And there it is

Getting our pose on

From the other side. They also had a museum we went to, definitely an awesome place.

This is how we eat in Japan. Yummy.

Now doing some exploring and heading to tea making. It was a really beautiful place (pretty much like all of Kyoto)

View down the river

Go to Kyoto and Uji if you ever go to Japan.

Just walking across the bridge

Time to make some green tea.

I dominated that tea. It was quite bitter.

Posing with Kernel Sanders dressed up as a samurai. He even has a sword!

I mentioned purikura before, where you use the photobooths for pictures and then can decorate the photos with all this crap. We fit like 15 people in there, haha, so some were inevitably cut off.

I think this one is my favorite

Last one, promise.

Last night in Kyoto, what better way to end the trip than to have everyone picnic and party down by the river.

Pretty much the whole group down at the river. See if you can find me.

There are a lot of terrible puns I could put here, but I wont.

Next day we had a couple of hours before we had to leave, so we used our remaining time to go see the famous Kinkakuji, the golden temple.

Pretty. The bird adds a nice touch, haha.

Me and Tim posing in front of the temple

We then moved on to the one of the most famous rock gardens in the world at Ryoanji Temple, which is about a 15 minute walk from Kinkakuji. It has not been changed for over 500 years. There were tons of people lined up at the side to look at it and interpret its meaning.

Other side. After leaving Ryoanji it was time to head back and hop on the Shinkansen to go home.

That concludes my Hiroshima and Kyoto trip 2-part update! Like I said before, it's a trip that I will absolutely never forget, I wish I could do it over again. If you ever go to Japan, these cities and areas are truly a must-see.

And now, here are 3 somewhat random photos of stuff we did soon after the trip that I thought I should include.

Do not look at the next picture yet. We went to this very special restaurant for Midori's birthday. She had never been before. Try to guess what it was. And I was just as surprised as you will be that we found one of these in JAPAN.

Yup, it was a California Pizza Kitchen. Just as good as the one in the real California, but the price was literally twice as much. But it was worth it just for the nice, hot, piece of home that we got.

And then one day we went bowling.

The end!

Watch out, for the next update may be on Tokyo Disneyland, which I went to all day yesterday... let's just say it was AWESOME.
